Supplies List

  • Watercolor Paper-9”x12” is a good general size. Make sure the paper says 90 lb or higher. The best paper is Arches 140 lb cold press which you can buy in pads or 22” x 30” sheets. Arches paper is expensive, so if you prefer a less expensive brand paper, Stonehenge, Canson and Strathmore make decent quality watercolor paper.
  • #6 round watercolor paint brush
  • HB pencil soft white or kneaded eraser
  • Pen - you may want to add ink to your paintings. Bring a waterproof thin tipped pen like a Micron or Pitt pen in your choice of color and line width.
  • Watercolor paints-* If you already have watercolor supplies, bring your paints to class and whatever brushes you like to use. Buy Cotman Sketcher's box or Cotman brand if you are on a budget. Otherwise buy artist quality brands like Daniel Smith, Winsor Newton, DaVinci, etc. Paint colors- Most Useful - Permanent rose, lemon yellow, sap green, thalo blue, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and yellow ochre. If you want to buy more paint colors - Permanent red, new gamboge or hansa yellow light, cobalt blue, dioxine violet, scarlet lake, cobalt teal and buff titinium. (Buff titinium watercolor is made only by Daniel Smith).
  • Palette with room for mixing colors and with a lid is good or you can use a china plate. I recommend purchasing a metal travel palette made by Medeen available on Amazon in the size to hold 12 or 24 half pans. Also purchase some empty half pans that you can fill with your tube paints. These palettes cost around $12 or less on Amazon and they will be useful for a long time
  • toilet paper
  • a kitchen sponge or a clean old wash or dish rag
  • a ruler
  • scissors
  • for our 1st class please bring some printed or digital photos of images that illustrate a recipe and bring that recipe.

*I assembled some paint sets containing the basic 8 colors of Cotman Paint you need to start painting. I’ve decided to do this because shopping for art supplies can be very confusing and costly. You can purchase these paints from me if you like in a metal palette for $20. I am looking forward to meeting you at our first class session. If you have a problem getting  supplies, email me at anywhereart4u@gmail.com.
